About Mike Fisher

I'm a life-long Iowa resident currently living in West Des Moines.  My art training includes commercial and advertising art at DMACC in Ankeny, Iowa and Fine art studies at MCC in Marshalltown, Iowa.  While studying drawing and painting techniques under award-winning artist, Ray Frederick, I developed a love for producing large landscapes with rich color and abundant texture.  My paintings are noted for including layers of canvas, burlap, acetate, plexiglas, and other materials to achieve a heavily textured, almost 3-D quality.

When developing an idea for a painting, I look for interesting subject matter first and foremost.  Adding texture to the canvas is the next step in the process.  I want all of my paintings to have texture contrast.  They should be visually interesting from a distance but my goal is for the viewer to experience an extra "surprise" when viewing the painting up close.  If they feel compelled to touch the painting, I consider it a success.
